A new poll shows America's decline
Videos of Elon Musk interview and Indiana school administrators bragging about fooling parents
A Catholic group plans to sue the FBI for infiltrating churches to spy on Christians. And Congressman Jim Jordan, R-OH, of the House Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government subpoenaed the FBI demanding more information about its “shocking” activities. My cartoon suggests a classic punishment.
POLL SHOWS AMERICA’S DECLINE
In 1838, Abraham Lincoln said, “If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide.”
This quote came to mind as I read the Wall Street Journal-NORC poll about what Americans value. Every area that made America great is trending down.
Americans who say that “patriotism” is very important is down from 70 percent in 1998 to 38 percent now.
Having children was very important to 59 percent in ‘98 but down to 30 percent now.
Religion was very important to 62 percent in ‘98 but is down to only 39 percent today.
Money is the one area that had increased in importance to Americans. That’s right, materialism has gone from 31 percent to 43 percent; a rise of 12 points.
What caused the shift in values? Secularism. We’re witnessing the rotten fruit of godlessness. As our society became more godless, we became demoralized. Without a faith in God and life-after-death, the value of earthly riches becomes more important than heavenly ones.
The Bible says that the 2 greatest commandments are to “Love the Lord, your God” and to “Love your neighbor as yourself.” But this poll shows what we already knew: people don’t love God or other people as much as they used to.
Jesus said, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
(Matthew 6:19-21).
Another harbinger of our decline is the escalating debt. Cal Thomas writes, “No nation in history has survived with such massive debt as ours. None. What makes us think we are any different?”
In his book, America’s Expiration Date, he lists the causes of the demise of world empires and massive debt is one of them. Thomas wrote the book to warn us not to repeat history. Sadly, Congress is facing another debt ceiling and any mention of cutting spending gets mocked as Republicans wanting to starve granny. Oh, and I haven’t even mentioned the transgender insanity. Add these all together and we’re facing a perfect storm.
Before the 2020 election, I said that if Biden won, it would mean that we were under the judgment of God. Biden’s actions have confirmed that I was right. Just read Victor Davis Hansen’s essay about the Biden administration’s self-inflicted disasters.
Which brings us back to Lincoln’s belief that America would not be destroyed by some foreign power but if we fail it would be by suicide. Was he prophetic? I hope not.
