“When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, but the Lord will not answer you in that day.” - 1 Samuel 8:18
This verse comes to mind when I think of America today. The leadership in DC is terrible and I fear that we may be crying for relief but the Lord will not answer.
Why? Because we have rejected God so He has given us the leadership that we deserved.
Before Israel had a king, they had the prophet Samuel who instructed the people as God commanded him. But when he was old, the people wanted a human king like all of the nations around them. When Samuel complained to them, God told Samuel, “It is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected Me as their King.” (1 Samuel 8:7)
Then the Lord told Samuel to warn the people that the king would tax them heavily, take their land and vineyards, draft their sons into his army, enslave them and that that they would eventually cry out for relief but God would not hear them in that day.
But they demanded a king all the more so God gave them the leader that they deserved: King Saul. And he was terrible.
America is not Israel. But God has blessed America with freedom, prosperity
and innovation like no other. But during my lifetime, America has secularized (without god) America.
How is that godlessness working out? Well, God gave us terrible politicians who implemented terrible policies and now we are reaping terrible consequences.
The only fix is a spiritual revival that would return America back to its spiritual roots. What America needs are more men like Dietrich Bonhoeffer who wrote on Christianity's role in the secular world. We are to let our light shine in this dark world. Perhaps God will be merciful and heal our land.
