Complain much?
The verse for today: “Do all things without complaining and disputing.” - Philippians 2:14.
Lou Holtz once said, “Don’t tell people your problems. Ninety percent of them don’t care and the other 10 percent are happy you got ‘em.”
What do you complain about?
In Exodus 16, the Israelites were so unhappy with their circumstances that they wished they were back in Egypt living as slaves. God had miraculously freed the Israelites from slavery through a series of miraculous plagues. God promised that He would bring the Israelites out of Egypt with silver and gold. And it happened just as He said it would.
When the Egyptians pursued the nation of Israel to the Red Sea, God parted the water and led the Israelites safely across on dry ground. Then they witnessed God destroy their pursuing enemy in the sea.
Despite all of these miracles and the constant visual reminder of God’s leading by a pillar of fire by night and pillar of smoke by day, just 2 months and 15 days after their exodus, the Israelites began complaining, “If only we had died by the Lord’s hand in Egypt!” they said, “There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted.”
They also complained about Moses and Aaron’s leadership. Moses responded, “You are not grumbling against us, but against the Lord.”
Have you ever considered that complaining about your circumstances is actually against the Lord? Consider that the next time you feel like bellyaching about your circumstances. And remember what Lou Holtz said, “most people don’t care.”
But there is One who cares. So give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. (1 Peter 5:7).
