Devotional - Who do you trust?
The verse for today: “But the officer in charge of the prisoners listened more to the ship’s captain and the owner than to Paul.” - Acts 27:11.
In whom do you believe? The Apostle Paul had warned the officer not to sail but the officer trusted the sailing experts instead of the man of God and they sailed into a storm that destroyed the ship.
Life is like a voyage on the sea. Occasionally there are storms. There are 4 kinds of storms in life.
1. Storms caused by nature.
2. Storms caused by ourselves.
3. Storms caused by God to strengthen us.
4. Storms caused by others.
Paul was in a storm caused by others. And so are we. We are all on a ship called earth and leaders make decisions that affect us all. In 2020, scientists working in a Chinese lab released a coronavirus called COVID-19. Ok, so they say the virus came from a wet market but nevertheless, it became a worldwide pandemic. The whole world was in a storm and millions died.
But as Paul told the sailors in verse 25, “take heart” or be encouraged in knowing that just as Jesus was on the ship with Paul, He is also with us. This voyage of life is a test to see if we will trust man’s wisdom or God’s word.
For instance, some scientists don’t believe in God. They believe this life is all there is.
Some people believe in a god that won’t judge sin. I know an author/false teacher who believes that, if there is a heaven, everyone is going there. That’s called universalism.
Will you trust these so-called human experts with your eternal destiny? Or will you trust in Jesus who said in John 14:6, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Your final destination will be determined by whom you trust.
