Gary Varvel: Biden's red line
Fears of World War III - plus for paid subscribers: a Biblical prophecy of Iran and a Trump cartoon
“Don’t, don’t, don’t!” That is President Biden’s message to Hezbollah and Iran. But our military bases have been attacked 170 times since October without a response. So either Iran’s leaders don’t understand the meaning of the word, “don’t” or, and this is more likely, the don’t respect Biden’s threats.
On Tuesday, Biden said that he had decided how to respond, but gave no further details about his plan. The media fears that if Biden retaliates, it could start World War III.
The Jerusalem Post reports, “Iran will respond to any threat from the United States, Tehran's Revolutionary Guards' chief Hossein Salami said on Wednesday.
So what does the Bible say about Iran?
BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE
In 1935, Persia changed its name to Iran. The Bible says in Ezekiel 38-39 that Persia will be one of the countries that will attack Israel.
But there is another prophecy in Jeremiah 49, that could be unfolding. This 2600-year-old prophecy predicts a coming disaster in the territory of ancient Elam which is along the western coast of Iran along the Persian Gulf.
Jeremiah 49:34-39 says that there will be a time when the rulers of Iran will FIERCELY ANGER the LORD. What have they done to anger God?
Iran’s leaders have been promising to destroy Israel since the Ayatollah Khomeini took power in 1979. Iran’s leaders support terrorist groups like Hezbollah and Hamas that attack Israel. But the Israeli Defense Force is much stronger than Iran’s proxies. In 2003, Iran signed an arms agreement with Russia. Then Iran’s leaders began developing a nuclear program and its power plant is located in… you guessed it, Elam.
If you look at the map below you will see that the Bushehr nuclear plant just happens to be located in ancient Elam.
