Sometimes I draw cartoons that I think are funny knowing that there will be people who don’t get it. So let me explain this to you.
In the 1960s, a rock ’n’ roll band from Liverpool, England called The Beatles took the world by storm. After years of hit songs, movies, and global fame, the band broke up in 1970. Paul McCartney, one of its members, went on to form another band called Wings. In 1973, Wings released a hit song titled “Band on the Run.”
At the time, music was sold on flat vinyl discs known as record albums. The “Band on the Run” album cover featured McCartney and several celebrities of the era posed as if caught in a prison searchlight.
Here’s a link to the real song on YouTube - Band on the Run.
So that’s how Dems on the Run was born. I hope you enjoy it.

VERSE FOR TODAY
“Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” — Matthew 5:11–12
Persecution has a way of making cowards out of us. The fear of it keeps many Christians from speaking openly about their faith.
Let’s be honest—no one enjoys being mocked or ridiculed. But Jesus said that when people mock you, tease you, belittle you, laugh at you, or spread lies about you for His name’s sake, you are blessed—and you will receive a great reward in heaven. Did you catch that? Blessings. Rewards in heaven. That sounds like a pretty good trade-off to me.
Yes, persecution in America is mild compared to what Christians face in many parts of the world. Still, Jesus specifically describes it here as people “saying all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.”
Over the years, I’ve received plenty of emails and letters from both the left and the right complaining about my cartoons and columns—especially when I quoted Scripture. I suspect some thought their criticism might make me stop. It didn’t work.
What they didn’t realize is that their curses were actually blessings. So remember: when you are persecuted for standing with Jesus—rejoice.
If you’ve been persecuted for your faith, share it in the comments. I’ll rejoice with you and pray for you.
