It’s finally here!!! The official trailer for DISCIPLES IN THE MOONLIGHT directed and produced by my son, Brett Varvel. This movie will be in theaters nationwide July 24-28th.
SYNOPSIS:
In a not-too-distant future the Bible has been outlawed in the United States of America for containing ‘hate speech.’ It is being replaced with a government-approved bible. A group of seven Christians from Indiana, are asked to smuggle the true Word of God to underground churches in Kentucky, Illinois, and Ohio. With Homeland Security hot on their trail, the smugglers decide it is better to obey God than to obey the government. So they must risk their lives for the Word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Brett says, “I believe this movie could be the start of a movement in our culture—to awaken people to treasure the Word of God and boldly proclaim the name of Jesus no matter the cost. The time has now come to share this powerful story.”

VARVEL BROTHERS:
The Varvel brothers, Brett and Drew, both act in the Disciples movie and play the part of brothers Nate and JJ Smith. They also worked together on the post-production. Drew, the younger brother, is also a professional videographer and worked on a lot of the editing on this trailer and assisted Brett in the movie edits. I worked as the Production Designer for the film and my wife, Carol, headed craft services (snacks) during the 12-hour shoots. Carol and I also make a cameo appearance in the film.
The script was written by Josh Strychalski who also plays the part of Jake Thornton in the movie.

VIDEO - CBN’s Billy Hallowell interviewed Brett and they discuss the making of DISCIPLES IN THE MOONLIGHT.
When the Apostles Peter and John were ordered by government officials to stop talking about Jesus, they said in Acts 4:19-20 (NLT), “Do you think God wants us to obey you rather than him? 20 We cannot stop telling about everything we have seen and heard.”
This movie is a message to the church to wake up and get serious about the Word of God and our faith in Jesus. The time may come when we will be tested and ordered to compromise. We must decide before we are tested how we’re going to respond. Before Joshua led the Israelites into the promised land, God told him 3 times to “be strong and courageous” (Joshua 1:6-9).
Our culture is changing and some people are rejecting absolute truth, redefining truth and demanding that we adopt their lies. It’s not easy to stand against the majority. We’ve all experienced the fear of what others think. But we don’t have to be afraid. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (1 Timothy 1:7)

Proverbs 13:19 says, “A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul…” This movie has been our desire for many years. We can all attest that it is sweet to our souls.
The Varvel's - Beautiful Christian family.
The movie is on our schedule and we WILL be taking friends with us. So looking forward to it.
