Gary Varvel: How to avoid prison
For paid subscribers: Humor Me winners, a time lapse video and an archive cartoon
Alright, class — what have we learned about politics?
We’ve learned that there’s a double standard of justice. Insider trading is illegal for everyone… except, apparently, sitting members of Congress — just look at their astonishing “luck” in the stock market.
We’ve also learned that politicians in deep-blue Minnesota are very generous with taxpayers’ money and very bad at overseeing where it goes. Now that the fraud is finally being investigated, I’m not holding my breath that any politicians will actually see the inside of a jail cell.
Somewhere in prison tonight, a lot of inmates are probably regretting that they didn’t run for office in a blue city or state instead.

SPEAKING EVENT
On January 13 at 7:00 p.m., I will be speaking at Victory Baptist Church (1340 E. Tracy Rd., Whiteland, IN). This is a free event.
The event, titled “Sanctified Civics,” is sponsored by Great News Interface, an evangelical informational network that seeks to educate and influence policymakers, Christian lay leaders, and pastors.
I’ll be sharing my cartoons that address our cultural evolution and our responsibility to serve as “watchmen on the wall” (Ezekiel 33).
