A grateful nation remembers those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
SACRIFICIAL LOVE
On this last Memorial Day before the historic 250th birthday of America’s Declaration of Independence, we remember those who died to purchase our liberty.
We also recall the words of G.K. Chesterton:
“The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.”
Sacrificial love compels soldiers to fight the enemy so that their loved ones may live, fully knowing it may cost them their lives. Their ultimate sacrifice deserves our deepest honor and undying gratitude.
It’s often been said:
“Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you: Jesus Christ and the American Soldier. One died for your soul; the other for your freedom.”
This truth reminds us of the greatest act of love: “God demonstrated His love for us in this, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
THE GOSPEL
Someone may ask: Why is Jesus’ death sufficient to save my soul? The answer lies in who He is. Jesus is the image of the invisible God. He not only created all things, but He left His throne in heaven to be born of a virgin, living a perfect life as God in human form. Because He never sinned, He alone was qualified to die for our sins.
And just when it seemed all was lost—when it appeared Jesus had died for nothing—He rose to life on the third day! He appeared to His disciples, including more than 500 people at one time, and promised to give eternal life to whoever trusts in His sacrifice. Then, after promising to return to rule and reign, He ascended back to heaven.
On this Memorial Day, as we honor the sacrificial love of the American soldier, we also praise God for the ultimate gift of eternal life through His Son, Jesus.

This is a beautiful reminder of the sacrificial love of the American soldier so that we might have the freedoms that we enjoy in the United States. Even more so is the sacrificial love of our Savior, Jesus Christ, so that we might have eternal life.
