Gary Varvel: P'Nut the squirrel, abortion and pre-election views
Kamala's sermon review plus a bonus sketch for paid subscribers
The New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) raided the home of Mark and Daniela Longo to capture their pet squirrel named P’Nut. And then the DEC euthanized the animal. The story went viral on social media as people railed against the heavy-handed overreach of the government. By Monday, ten DEC offices in New York State received bomb threats. There is more to this story than I care to discuss.
My take: I don’t like the government killing our pets but I wish people were as passionate about human babies in the womb as they are over a pet squirrel.
Over 63 million babies have been aborted since 1973. After the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, the legislature in my home state of Indiana, banned abortions, with a few exceptions. The total of yearly abortions in my state went down from 8,000 to 100. Sadly, abortions nationwide have gone up.

VIDEO - Kamala Harris spoke during a Sunday service at a Church in Detroit, Michigan.
KAMALA’S SERMONETTE
Kamala Harris quoted Jeremiah 29:11 which says,
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Harris spoke about a loving God who has plans for America and that we must “act” on the plans “He has in store for us.” Her speech was full of feel good platitudes of faith, works and our democracy. (FYI: Our government is NOT a democracy, it’s a Constitutional Republic).
OMISSION: Harris did not mention Jesus Christ, sin, judgment or repentance and forgiveness in her short church message. She quoted the prophet Jeremiah but if she had read the rest of his book, she would have discovered God’s message of judgment on Israel because of their sins and a command to repent. The congregation she spoke to cheered her on but in reality, her word salad had no substance whatsoever, unlike great politicians of the past like, Honest Abe.
In the middle of the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln called for a day of Humiliation, Fasting and Prayer on March 30, 1863. In it, he explained the reason for the proclamation:
“We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth, and power as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God.”
Lincoln continued: “We know that by His divine law nations, like individuals, are subjected to punishments and chastisements in this world, may we not justly fear that the awful calamity of civil war which now desolates the land may be but a punishment inflicted upon us for our presumptuous sins, to the needful end of our national reformation as a whole people?”
“Whereas it is the duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon, and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord.”
Can you imagine a President saying this today? The ACLU and the progressive left would have a conniption fit.
God is love but God is also just. And if we want God to bless America again, we must do what Lincoln proclaimed:
remember our Godly heritage
repent of our national and personal sins
return to God.
Then the Lord would restore us once again. This is America’s only hope.
Someone once said, “If you want to destroy the country quickly, vote Democrat. If you want to destroy the country slowly, vote Republican.”
If you haven’t voted yet, please consider voting for Trump who will slow our demise.
ELECTION SERMON
VIDEO - Pastor Alton R. Williams’ ‘I can’t do it’ sermon. Harris should have listened to this sermon and repented of her party’s platform.
I’m reposting this for every Christian who is thinking about sitting out this election. Not voting for Biblical policies is a vote for unBiblical policies. If you don’t vote for the lesser of two evils, you are voting for the greater of two evils.
ELECTION PARODY
VIDEO - SNL skit actually mocks the left. But journalist Michael Shellnberger suggests the skit was an effort to save Tim Kaine who is facing a strong challenge from Hung Cao according to Townhall’s Rebecca Downs.
