Gary Varvel: Trump: "I want to try to get to heaven"
REPOST: An open letter to President Trump
VIDEO - President Trump says, “I want to try to get to heaven.” But he doesn’t know how to get there.
Trump called into Fox & Friends and talked about the peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. He said, “But if I can save 7,000 people a week from being killed, I think that’s a pretty— I want to try to get to heaven if possible. I’m hearing I’m not doing well,” he continued. “I hear I’m really at the bottom of the totem pole. But if I can get to heaven, this will be one of the reasons.”
Excuse me, Mr. President, but to use your words, that is “fake news.” The Bible says you cannot work your way to heaven.
You don’t have the cards.
The Bible says, “For all of us have become like one who is unclean, And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; And all of us wither like a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.” (Isaiah 64:6 NASB)
The word “all” includes you, sir. Notice that our “righteous deeds are like a filthy garment.” Stopping wars, making peace deals, and saving lives is noble, but it won’t erase your sins before a holy God.
On Fox News’ The Five, co-host Jesse Watters said that after studying Christianity, he discovered you can’t get to heaven by doing good works. He added that it has more to do with “faith.” But faith in what? He didn’t say, and neither did any of the other hosts.
Mr. President, here is the truth.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
The truth is, all of us are facing a death sentence because we have broken God’s moral law.
“But God demonstrated His love for us in this, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:7)
The truth is, Jesus—God in the flesh—became a sinless man so that He could die in our place. He then rose again, offering eternal life in heaven to all who believe in Him.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Imagine if you went to great expense to purchase Super Bowl tickets for your friends to pick up at the Will Call booth. Instead of accepting your gift, they tried to work for the tickets. That would be insulting—and a rejection of your gift.
The truth is, God will not accept any other payment for sin other than Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection.
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” (John 14:6)
Mr. President, you have accomplished many things in your life. But until you humble yourself, repent, and trust in Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, you will have no peace with God now—and you will not enter heaven when you die.
Works won’t save you.
Faith alone won't save you.
Only faith in Jesus will save you.
“And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12
