Gary Varvel: Turning down the temperature edition

Democrats’ inflammatory language is coming back to burn them. Ever since President Trump’s first term, Democrats have called him an authoritarian fascist, a threat to democracy and Hitler.

After the Charlie Kirk assassination, Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., criticized members of his own party for calling Trump "Hitler."

But Wisconsin Democratic Rep. Mark Pocan wants to turn up the temperature. Townhall.com reports that when a reporter asked if the Left uses the word "Nazi" too much, Pocan replied yes, but that Democrats should keep doing it.

So much for civil-discourse. This political name-calling is going to backfire on the Dems. I didn’t think I’d ever say this but the Dems should listen to Fetterman.

President Trump must be laughing. Disney-owned ABC pulled Jimmy Kimmel off the air after he blamed Charlie Kirk’s shooter on being MAGA. Here’s a Townhall.com story.

In his monologue, Kimmel said, “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

That lie had already been debunked.

I’m all for free speech. My career is only possible because of it. But the First Amendment doesn’t protect anyone from the consequences of lies. ABC is a business, and if they want to suspend or fire an employee, that is their right.

I’m speaking from experience. I’ve been canceled by newspapers before. My conservative views didn’t match their leftist views, so I was canceled. That is why Views From The Right newsletter is so important. People who value it can subscribe—and those who don’t, won’t.

For years, Kimmel has mocked Trump to get laughs. Now, Trump is getting the last laugh.
