I know there’s a lot going on in the world, but I needed a time out. So my wife and I are spending a vacation with our favorite people in the whole world — our family. (Pictured above)

Now you may be thinking, Gary how could you support an organization that has gone “woke.” It’s true that I have poked fun at the House of Mouse from time to time. But my wife and I took our children to Disney World when they were young and we wanted to experience that once again with our 9 grandchildren.

You may notice that our shirts, designed by my very talented daughter, Ashley Day, says, “Varvel Insider Company Retreat.” Here’s the inside joke: Several years ago, our family produced a video series called, My REEL Family as a part of what we called “Varvel Insider.”

In 2023, I drew this cartoon after it was leaked that Disney planned to wokify “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” by replacing the dwarves with a diverse group of average people in order to pacify progressive nut-jobs. After facing heavy criticism, Disney replaced the diverse non-dwarfs with CGI dwarfs.

Well, the movie finally made its debut on March 21st and critics say it bombed. The New York Post reports that Snow White “currently has a 42% score on Rotten Tomatoes, meaning the majority of reviews have been negative.”

Another cartoon from 2023. Interestingly enough, The New York Post story is headlined: Disney ‘Snow White’ disaster proves it again: Go woke, go broke!

I called it 2 years ago. But I must say that after seeing the crowds at the theme park, Disney can take the financial hit because it has to be making tons of cash.

REALITY CHECK: Walt Disney was a heavy smoker throughout his life and died of lung cancer on December 15, 1966. He was only 65.

In Ecclesiastes 2:18-20 (NLT), King Solomon wrote, “I came to hate all my hard work here on earth, for I must leave to others everything I have earned. 19 And who can tell whether my successors will be wise or foolish? Yet they will control everything I have gained by my skill and hard work under the sun. How meaningless! 20 So I gave up in despair, questioning the value of all my hard work in this world.”

I imagine Walt Disney felt that way. His creation lives on but his successors have changed it in very humanistic ways.

Is Disney in heaven? I don’t know. He reportedly belonged to a Congregationalist Church but church membership doesn’t save you. Only faith in Jesus Christ saves you.

One thing is sure; the only thing that matters at the end of your life is not how well you entertained the masses. NO, the only thing that matters is where will you spend eternity. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me.” (John 14:6)
