Democrats are pitching another fit. This time it’s over gerrymandering. But not all gerrymandering. They say the problem isn’t Democrats’ gerrymandering, it’s Republicans’. Of course.
Illinois’ redistricting is a joke. After Bill Clinton was elected in 1992, Illinois Democrats got creative with their redistricting. (See map below)
The result: Democrats have turned Illinois into the national blueprint for one-party rule.
FROM MY ARCHIVES
ARCHIVE: In 2011, Indiana’s Democrat legislators walked out of the Statehouse and fled to Illinois, following the example of Wisconsin Democrats who had done the same just days earlier.
So when Texas Democrats walked out of their legislature and sought refuge in Illinois, it was déjà vu all over again.
The Hoosier Democrats left to block a controversial right-to-work bill and other legislation they opposed. Without a quorum, Republicans couldn’t hold a vote. The walkout lasted nearly six weeks. When they finally returned, the political fallout was severe—Democrats have remained in the minority ever since.
I’ll post more of my archived cartoons about AWOL Dems in the paid subscriber portion of this email below.
