ESG
Companies that go woke, go broke. When Jason Aldean’s song “Try That In A Small Town” was originally released on May 22 it got little attention and quickly fell out of the top of the Billboard charts according to Forbes. But when Country Music Television (CMT) pulled the music video, conservatives got ticked and threatened to do to CMT what they did to Bud Light.
Since then, Aldean’s song has rocketed to number 2 on Billboard charts Hot 100. And the video (linked here) has been watched on YouTube over 21 million times in 13 days.
Why did CMT pull the video? Forbes writes, “The video featured news clips of violence at protests. Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action, called out Aldean for the video claiming it promoted gun violence. CMT pulled it from rotation.”
The truth is Aldean’s song struck a nerve with common sense, patriotic law-abiding Americans who are sick of seeing acts of violence in big cities becoming normalized by the left.
But CMT is more concerned that their actions are in line with the ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) goals of its parent company Paramount Global. The big companies have drunk the ESG Kool-aid because their investment banks like BlackRock and Vanguard are pushing it. Confused? You’re not alone.
On July 6, Jim Jordan, House Republicans launched and investigation Into BlackRock, Vanguard and others over ESG practices. Of course that’ll be a waste of time and no action will be taken.
What are the goals of ESG? To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, investing in sustainable energy, increasing workplace diversity, and providing transparent financial practices. In other words, everyone must become “woke.”
Well that goal may be difficult to achieve because there are a lot of people in Small Towns who probably aren’t go along.
There will be more about ESG in the next newsletter.
