Even Forrest Gump knows.

There are 19 lawmakers in Congress who are over 80 years old. The recent health scares have made age an issue. And while I know some mentally sharp octogenarians, the physical demands of Congress make it unwise for them to continue working.

There’s an old saying that a man on his deathbed never says, “I wish I had worked more.” Which begs the question, why do these 80-year-olds continue to run? More importantly, why do voters keep voting for people past their prime?

This is why I’ve always believed that the Constitution should have included term limits.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 says, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: 2 a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot.”

There is also a time to work and a time to retire before you embarrass yourself.
