Gary Varvel: Born unto you, a Savior
Another one of my dual-image cartoons to remind us of the Reason for the Season
In 2013, I drew this dual-image cartoon of the face of Jesus, titled, “Savior.”
This idea came to me as I read Luke 2:11, “For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
The birth of a child is a joyous event. But Jesus wasn’t just any child. Jesus left heaven to become one of us so that He could save us from our sin penalty. That baby born in a manger would become the Savior who died on the cross.
Hidden in this artwork is Joseph watching over the babe in the manger, while Mary is sitting on a stone with her back to us. The darkness of her back appears to form the gaping mouth of Jesus. I imagine that He is saying, “It is finished!”
This Christmas, remember the first Christmas gift — God so loved you and me, that He gave is One and only Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16)
Merry Christmas

Indiana Mandate: A Return to Founding Principles Paperback
This book by The Indiana Policy Review Foundation, asks and answer the question, “What would the Founding Fathers do?” In preparation for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, this handbook examines 75 key issues from the lens of the founding generation. It is designed for elected officials, candidates and citizens.
The book is filled with essays by experts on key principles. I also contributed an essay on the Faith of the Founders. The book also includes some of my cartoons and caricatures.
